Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport has three terminals and it can feel like three different airports. The terminals are connected by free airport transport, but getting from one terminal to another can still take time, especially after a long flight.

• Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 handle most international arrivals.
• Terminal 3 is smaller and mainly used for short haul flights.
• Many shops and services at CDG close in the evening, so your options can be limited if you arrive late.

Late arrival warning: earlier this year I arrived at CDG from Morocco at around 11 pm and the airport was basically deserted. Most shops were closed, the Tourist Information desk was closed and even the Relay shop was closed, which meant there was no place to buy a tourist SIM card after landing.

Where to buy a SIM card at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)

At Paris CDG there are no official SIM card shops from the French mobile operators in the arrivals area. Relay is a book shop and convenience store chain inside CDG and you will find at least one Relay in every terminal. Relay shops can be very busy and there are often long lines. The staff is friendly, but they are usually stressed and do not have time to answer many questions about SIM cards.

On my latest arrival at CDG from Shanghai, I walked into Relay again to check the current tourist SIM offers and asked specifically if eSIMs were available. The answer was simple: no. Relay sells physical SIM cards only.

Tourist Information desks

The Tourist Information desks at CDG also sell tourist SIM cards and this is the only place at the airport where you can buy an eSIM on arrival. They sell both physical SIM cards and eSIMs. They are open from 07.00 am till 9.00 pm.

However, do not expect detailed advice here either. In my experience the staff is helpful, but they usually cannot answer simple technical questions about the SIM card specifications. You still need to do registration and setup yourself.
