There are no SIM card shops in the international arrivals hall at Miami Airport. If you want to buy a tourist SIM card after landing, you first need to go one floor up to the departures level. There you can find two places that sell prepaid SIM cards for tourists: Communitel and the Currency Exchange.

The cheapest prepaid SIM card at Miami Airport costs $37 USD for just 4 GB data. The other option is a Lycamobile SIM card with 12 GB data for $70 USD. These airport SIM card prices are expensive compared to USA eSIMs and local prepaid SIM card deals in Miami city.

In this complete guide I will show you exactly where to buy a SIM card at Miami Airport, the latest Miami Airport SIM card prices for 2026, which tourist SIM card is the best option at the airport, why I do not really recommend buying a SIM card at MIA Airport, and what better alternatives you have for staying connected in Miami.

My honest recommendation? For most travelers, an eSIM for the USA is much easier, faster and often cheaper. You can install it before your trip and be online as soon as the plane lands in Miami. Why you need a SIM card or eSIM for Miami

Make sure you avoid high roaming charges at all times or end up with excessive high phone bills. Also don't opt for those slow and overpriced overseas data roaming plans, they reduce the data speed!

There are many reasons to stay connected when traveling to Miami. Having a data connection on our phone makes life so much more convenient. Think about ordering an Uber, getting directions from Google Maps or looking for a nearby rooftop bar, it is not possible without a data connection on your phone.

Also think about emergencies, checking your banking apps, etc. Don't depend on public WiFi. There is no guarantee, it can be slow and keep in mind that public WiFi is through an UNSECURED network. The use of a VPN is recommended to protect your data.

Arrival at Miami International Airport

A very popular airport and hub for traveling between Europe, Central America and the Caribbean but just as many airports in the USA, Miami International Airport is not the most modern one. That said, international arrivals is pretty easy going. After you collected your passport stamp and bag there are two exit doors for International arrivals.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as an arrival hall with car rental companies, taxi stands and sim card stores. There is just a little bookshop, convenience store and coffee shop. Good thing tho is that there is free public WiFi at Miami International Airport and it works very well. Welcome to Miami!

Where to buy a SIM card at Miami Airport

As I said above at Miami International arrivals there is no shop or kiosk that sells prepaid sim cards for the USA. You will have to go to Departures, which is one floor up on the Ground Floor.

There you can find two places that sell prepaid sim cards for tourists for the USA. There is a Communitel - Baggage Storage that is opposite check in 150 and near door 10 and you can get a USA prepaid sim card at the Currency Exchange opposite check in 176 and next to door 11.

If you have missed the opportunity to buy a sim card at Miami International Airport then the best thing to do is to located one of the nearest phone stores of one of the mobile internet providers in the USA nearby your hotel. Use google maps to find any T-Mobile or AT&T store.

Your best bet is to go to any of the bigger shopping malls in Miami where you can find places that sell prepaid sim cards for tourists.

Communitel - Baggage Storage

Despite the big letters of Communitel above the shop, the main business here is baggage storage.

There is big sign on the wall with all the things they sell and one of them is prepaid sim cards. The prices on the sign on the wall are not up to date anymore.

The only prepaid sim card they sell is from Ultra Mobile and it operates on the T-Mobile network:

• 4 GB data + unlimited calls/sms for 30 days = $37 USD

Communitel is open from 05.00 am till 09.00 pm and they accept international credit cards.

Currency Exchange

You can't miss the big sign on the wall saying: Sim Cards. Sounds promising, but unfortunately they only sell one prepaid sim card for the USA from Lycamobile.

• 12 GB data + unlimited calls/sms for 30 days = $70 USD

The Currency Exchange store is open from 06.00 am till 09.00 pm and they accept international credit cards.

Best SIM card at Miami International Airport

It is safe to say that the Lycamobile sim card at the Currency Exchange is extremely overpriced. Who wants to pay $70 USD for just 12 GB data?

At any AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile store in Miami you can buy a prepaid sim card with unlimited data for around $60 USD. Or even easier. Get yourself an eSIM for the USA and find eSIMs starting from just $4 USD.

Although the value for money at the Communitel store is not good either, at least their tourist sim card deal starts from $37 USD. Unfortunately you only get 4 GB data, but that is the best prepaid sim card for tourists you can find at Miami International Airport.

Why I do not recommend buying a SIM card at Miami Airport

Although it is possible to buy a prepaid SIM card at Miami International Airport, I do not recommend it for most travelers. The choice is very limited, the prices are high and there are no SIM card shops in the international arrivals hall.

If you want to buy a SIM card at Miami Airport you first have to go one floor up to the departures level. There you can find two places that sell prepaid SIM cards for tourists: Communitel - Baggage Storage and the Currency Exchange. However, the available plans are not great value compared to what you can find online or in Miami city.

The cheapest SIM card at Miami Airport is an Ultra Mobile SIM card with 4 GB data for $37 USD. The other option is a Lycamobile SIM card with 12 GB data for $70 USD. For these prices you get very limited data compared to many USA eSIM plans or prepaid SIM card deals in official phone stores.

On my last trip to Miami I arrived prepared with an eSIM for the USA already installed on my phone. That meant I was connected as soon as the plane landed and did not have to search for a SIM card shop, go upstairs to departures or pay airport prices for a tourist SIM card.

This is exactly why I recommend arranging your mobile internet before you arrive in Miami. For most travelers, an eSIM is faster, easier and often much cheaper than buying a prepaid SIM card at Miami Airport. If your phone is not eSIM compatible, then I recommend buying a prepaid SIM card in Miami city at an official T-Mobile, AT&T or Verizon store instead.

Best eSIMs for USA travel in 2026

For most travelers visiting the United States, I currently recommend Nomad as the best overall eSIM for USA travel in 2026. It offers the best balance between price, reliability and generous data plans, especially compared to the expensive tourist SIM cards sold at San Fransisco (SFO) airport.

The Nomad USA eSIM has some of the best-value data plans for tourists, including a 20 GB plan for $22 USD and a 50 GB plan for $31 USD. That makes it a much cheaper and easier alternative than buying a prepaid SIM card on arrival at San Francisco Airport.

If you need a USA eSIM with a phone number, calling and texting, then Airalo is a better option. For budget travelers, SimOptions is also worth checking as they have an eSIM with 5 GB for just $6.90 USD.

But for most tourists who mainly need mobile data for Google Maps, WhatsApp, Uber, social media and browsing, Nomad is currently Traveltomtom’s first pick for USA travel.
