Arriving at Marrakech Airport and wondering if you should buy a SIM card right away? In this guide I’ll show you how to get a prepaid SIM card at Marrakech Airport (RAK), what it costs and which provider to choose.

I’ve traveled multiple times around Morocco, including a recent trip to Marrakech during a major international football tournament, and having mobile data makes things a lot easier for navigation, bookings and staying connected on the road.

Buying a tourist SIM card at Marrakech Airport is very easy. SIM cards are sold in the arrival hall and the process is quick, but choosing the right network is important for coverage across Morocco.

If you want to be connected immediately after landing then buying a SIM card at Marrakech Airport is the best option. SIM cards are sold in the baggage claim hall and the process is quick and straightforward.

Using your home SIM card abroad can quickly lead to high roaming charges. Many international data roaming plans are expensive and often come with speed restrictions.

Relying on public WiFi is also not recommended. Connections in airports, cafes or hotels are often slow and not secure, especially when accessing personal accounts.

Based on my recent trip to Morocco, prepaid SIM card prices at the airport are the same as in official stores in the city. There is no reason to wait until you reach Marrakech city center to buy a tourist SIM card.

If you prefer not to swap SIM cards, an eSIM is a great alternative. You can install it before your trip and be online as soon as you land. 

Arrival at Marrakech Airport

Arriving at Marrakech Airport is mostly chill and the airport is very spacious with high ceilings. A pretty modern airport. First you will be guided to immigration. There is a huge hall and although often very busy the passport control mostly goes pretty fast.

I might have always been lucky as I frequently see viral videos on social media about extremely long lines at Marrakech Airport immigration. I never waited more than 15 minutes.

After immigration you will be guided into the Baggage Claim hall and you will see an ATM, a money exchange office and next to the luggage belts there are SIM card shops.

After you collected your luggage you will have to pass through a customs bag check and all your bags have to go through a scanner before you arrive in a huge but quiet and empty Arrival Hall.

Taxi's, vendors, car rentals, etc. are all outside. Arriving at Marrakech Airport is very pleasant and chill. A taxi to the city should never cost more than $10 USD and that is already a tourist price!

Where to buy a prepaid SIM card in Marrakech

Buying a SIM card at Marrakech Airport (RAK)

It is impossible to miss the SIM card shops at Marrakech Airport. After passing passport control you enter the baggage claim hall and right in front of you there are three official mobile operator stores: Maroc Telecom, INWI and Orange.

These are the main telecom providers in Morocco and all of them sell prepaid SIM cards for tourists directly at the airport.

Important: you have to buy your SIM card in the baggage claim hall. Once you collect your luggage and pass the customs baggage check you cannot go back inside. So make sure to stop at one of the SIM card shops before exiting the area.

The SIM card stores at Marrakech Airport are open 24/7, so even late night arrivals can easily get connected. All shops accept international credit cards and offer both physical prepaid SIM cards as well as eSIM options for tourists.

Buying a SIM card in Marrakech city center

If for some reason you didn’t buy a SIM card at the airport, you can visit official stores of INWI, Maroc Telecom or Orange in Marrakech city center. They sell more or less the same prepaid SIM card packages as at the airport, sometimes with a small service fee for activation.

Keep in mind that English is not always widely spoken in local phone shops, which can make the process a bit more difficult. Another reason why buying your SIM card at Marrakech Airport is simply easier.

Prices for prepaid SIM cards in the city are more or less the same as at the airport, so there is no real advantage in waiting.

Buying a SIM card from street vendors

You will also find SIM card vendors on the streets in Marrakech selling prepaid SIM cards from INWI, Orange and Maroc Telecom. Personally, this would be my last option.

Prices are often negotiable and in my case I was offered a SIM card for around €20 EUR with 40 GB data and calling credit from Orange. When I declined, the price quickly dropped to only €10 EUR. Suspicious...

These street vendors don't require a passport registration which usually means trouble. You don’t really know what plan will be activated on your phone as there are legit language barriers. Activation messages are often in Arabic and you might run out of data much sooner than expected.

Prices of prepaid SIM cards at Marrakech Airport in 2026

Prepaid SIM card prices at Marrakech Airport are the same as in official stores in the city. All three providers offer similar tourist packages, so there is no price advantage in waiting.

Below are the typical prepaid SIM card deals for tourists in Morocco.

INWI prepaid SIM card prices

INWI offers flexible prepaid plans that are very popular among tourists. A common deal is around 20 GB data for approximately ~$20 USD, with options to customize your bundle with data, calls and SMS.

Maroc Telecom prepaid SIM card prices

Maroc Telecom has similar pricing to INWI. Expect to pay around ~$20 USD for 20 GB of data. Their prepaid plans are straightforward and widely available at Marrakech Airport.

Orange prepaid SIM card prices

Orange tourist SIM cards are also priced similarly. Based on recent offers, you can get around 20 GB data for approximately ~$20 USD, often combined with some calling credit.

All SIM cards are registered on the spot with your passport and are activated within a couple of minutes.

What is the best prepaid SIM card at Marrakech Airport?

If you are buying a prepaid SIM card at Marrakech Airport (RAK) then INWI is the best overall choice for tourists in 2026.

INWI offers the strongest performance in more remote areas of Morocco and is the best option if you are planning road trips into the Atlas Mountains or towards the Sahara.

Maroc Telecom is a very close alternative with similar nationwide coverage. If for any reason INWI is not available, Maroc Telecom is a reliable backup and a solid all-round choice.

Orange is officially considered the weakest network among the three, but in reality it still performs very well for most travelers.

On my most recent trip to Morocco I used an Orange SIM card and had a stable connection while traveling through the Atlas Mountains and along the coast towards Agadir.

For the majority of tourists visiting Marrakech and nearby destinations, Orange is therefore also a perfectly fine option. However, if you want the best possible coverage across the country, INWI remains the top recommendation.
