My recommendation

Traveltomtom is an advocate for using eSIMs when traveling abroad. Very convenient and simple to use, but fact is that eSIMs for Morocco are more expensive than local prepaid sim cards.

Why buying a sim card for Morocco
First and foremost we want to avoid high roaming charges. Don't use data roaming on your sim card from home or get charged with excessive high data roaming charges.
There are many reasons to stay connected when traveling to Morocco, but the main reason is that it makes life so much more convenient when you have a working data connection on your phone. Ordering an Uber, getting directions from Google Maps or looking for a cool nearby rooftop bar is not possible without a data connection on your phone.
Also think about emergencies, checking your banking apps, etc. Don't depend on public WiFi. There is no guarantee, it could be slow and keep in mind that public WiFi is through an UNSECURED network. The use of a VPN is recommended to protect your data.
A prepaid sim card is the cheapest way to stay connected when traveling to Morocco. High roaming costs can ruin your trip and overseas data plans slow down your internet speed, therefore I opt for buying a prepaid sim card at the airport in Casablanca or simply order an eSIM for Morocco on the internet.
Arrival at Casablanca Airport
Arriving at Casablanca Airport is pretty well organized and the airport, although depending on your arrival gate it can be a long walk to passport control. The signs will guide your through hallways until you reach immigration. There is a fairly big hall and although it can be busy at times, it usually goes pretty fast.
There are two terminals. Terminal 1 is at Casablanca Airport is for Royal Air Maroc and its partners for international and domestic flights. Terminal 2 is the newer and bigger terminal and handles all international flights.
Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are in the same building and there is a connecting walkway. It takes just a couple minutes to walk from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2.
Regardless which terminal you arrive, the process is the same.
After passport control you will be guided into the Baggage Claim hall downstairs. You go down by escalator where you will find the luggage belts.
After you collected your luggage you will have to pass through a customs bag check and all your bags have to go through a scanner before you arrive in a big but quiet Arrival Hall.
Arriving at Casablanca Airport is pleasant and chill. A taxi to the city should never cost more than $10 USD and that already is a tourist price! Better you use Uber, but for using Uber you need data on your phone.
Where to buy a sim card at Casablanca Airport
First of all it is impossible to miss the sim card stores at Casablanca Airport. After you get your passport stamped at customs and you pick up your bag from the luggage belts you go through the last customs check. There is an x-ray and all bags will need to go through. There is no metal detector scan.
After this last check you go through the sliding doors and you end up in the arrival hall.
Right in front of you there are 3 sim card shops: INWI, Orange and Maroc Telecom. These sim card kiosks can be found in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
These are also the 3 main mobile internet operators in Morocco and they all sell prepaid sim cards for tourists. As per 2026 eSIMs for tourists are also available.
The sim card shops at Casablanca Airport are open 24 hours.
Prices prepaid sim cards Casablanca Airport
All info and prices are updated as per 2026 and prices are in Moroccan Dirham (MAD) and $1 USD is around 9 MAD.
All the sim card shops at Casablanca will lure you with a free sim card, but all operators do the same. Registering a prepaid sim card in Morocco is free and there is no extra charge. You choose the data package you want and that is what you pay for.
All the sim card shops at Casablanca Airport accept Visa, Mastercard, USD, EUR or MAD.

Maroc Telecom
The super friendly ladies at Maroc Telecom actually wrote me down a complete list of all available prepaid sim cards for tourists. They have data-only plans and plans with internet + calls. Find below a selection of the most common tourist sim cards:

- 45 GB data-only for 30 days = 300 MAD - $30 USD
- 60 GB data-only for 30 days = 400 MAD - $40 USD
Internet & calls
- 20 GB data + 180 minutes = 200 MAD - $20 USD
- 35 GB data + 180 minutes = 300 MAD - $30 USD
- 50 GB data + 180 minutes = 400 MAD - $40 USD
- 65 GB data + 180 minutes = 500 MAD - $50 USD
Update: as per 2026 you can now also opt for an eSIM, so all the above prepaid sim cards for tourists are available as physical prepaid sim cards as well as eSIMs.
Best sim card at Casablanca Airport
Traveltomtom started this sim card guide with recommending INWI or Marco Telecom sim cards for your trip to Morocco.So why not Orange?
Well... Orange has a much smaller mobile data network and their coverage and signal strength is much less compared to INWI and Maroc Telecom.
INWI has the best 4G/LTE network coverage, but Maroc Telecom and Orange are not far behind. In fact Orange has the better 5G network in Morocco in 2026.

The best prepaid sim card plan at Casablanca Airport? When we compare the prices we see that they are pretty much the same. However, INWI gives you more value for money (more Gigabytes + calling minutes) than Maroc Telecom.

Buying a sim card in Casablanca city center
Phone shops Casablanca
If for some reason you weren't able to buy a prepaid sim card at Casablanca Airport there is always the option to walk into any phone store in Casablanca. In phone stores they also sell prepaid sim cards for tourists but they will charge a small service fee for activating the sim card.
Getting an eSIM is only possible in the official stores of INWI, Maroc Telecom or Orange. However, English is not spoken everywhere well and communicating could be an issue. Another reason to get your sim card for Morocco at the airport or online.
Sim card prices and packages at local phone stores are more or less the same as on the airport.

Street vendors
If you are adventurous you can also buy a prepaid sim card on the streets of Casablanca from one of the sim card vendors. Personally this would be the last thing I would do, but if there really is no other option…
These guys sell sim cards from INWI, Orange and Maroc Telecom. Pick your favorite! In my case they offered me a sim card for €20 EUR with 400 minutes calling included and 40 GB data from Orange. When I said no, they started offering me a lower price, so you can bargain!
Prices are negotiable, no passport needed, but who knows what package they activate on your phone as the activation messages will be in Arabic. You might end up with no data after 2 days… Traveltomtom simply doesn't recommend it!
