I turned my life into a Journey.

I don’t travel to collect countries or chase records. I travel because it makes me feel alive.
I’m Tom, an adventure traveler from the Netherlands, living a full-time nomadic life since 2012. What started with my first trip around the world in 2008 turned into a journey of more than 4,599 days on the road, traveling continuously through 160+ countries.
I don’t travel to collect countries or chase records. I travel because it makes me feel alive. Because it teaches me, challenges me, and makes me a better person every single day.
What began as a passion slowly became a lifestyle — and eventually Traveltomtom. Today, this journey is shared with an incredible global community of millions of travelers who follow along, learn from the road, and travel smarter because of real experiences, not theory.
For me, life isn’t about goals or checklists. It’s about chasing happiness, living in the moment, and not waiting for “someday.”

By Tom, an avid adventure traveler from The Netherlands continuously traveling the world since 2012, living a full time nomadic life.
For more than 2,5 years I lived an island lifestyle on the most incredible beaches in Asia and Australia and hardly saw the mountains, apart from climbing Mount Rinjani in Lombok. Yes they were calling many times but I didn’t get the chance to answer those calls. Yet a couple weeks ago, right before Christmas there was an opportunity to return to Austria after 2,5 years and it was an easy decision to drive down to Kaprun and stay at Avenida 24 from Alpin Rentals.
Happy as a kid to be back in the mountains!
The idyllic mountain village of Kaprun is surrounded by the peaks of the Alps.
Mountains or beaches?
The beach makes me smile, the mountains make me happy! I can’t define myself to be honest I don’t know what I prefer I simply love both. Getting into the mountains takes a little bit more effort and therefore it probably feels more special. In 2015 I spent a complete winter season in Austria (click here to read some of my first blogs ever, emberrassing! LOL) hopping from ski resort to ski resort. It was an amazing time, but honestly I spent way too much money. And I even slept in my car sometimes! :)
Snowboarding with my best friends is one of the most amazing things to do and life in the mountains is easy. You dress up in the early morning, get your gear, walk to the ski lift go up the mountain and cruise down taking in the breathtaking views or search for the adrenaline rush on your way down. On your way up you have a giggle with your friends in the lift. These holidays are the best!
One of the reasons this website is looking so amazing is because one of my best friends is helping me out a lot and every time there is an issue I have to beg him to fix it. To return the favor I asked him and his wife to join me on my trip to 24 By Avenida Kaprun.
We were staying in one of the brand new penthouse apartments with an amazing view over the mountains and the village of Kaprun. The hotel was not even officially opened yet (definitely is now, click here to see their rates) and we were among the first ones to try out this gorgeous place.
The massive living room with its floor to ceiling windows and fireplace was simply too comfortable and it was hard to leave in the morning. We did not make it to the ski lift before 11.00 o’clock.
It was such a difference from my normal skiing holidays when I would be eager to go up the mountain at 08.00 in the morning. Our apartment felt so much like home that I totally forgot about skiing.
The healthy breakfast, the amazing view and the heat of the fireplace made it all so cosy that there was no rush to leave at all. All three we were seriously in love with our homey apartment!
Services offered at 24 by Avenida
This newest property of Alpin Rentals is made for those people who expect top-notch service during their holiday. They thought about every little detail. There are shuttles services that run daily to and from the ski lifts at any given time. In the showers you will find products from Rituals. The kitchen is equipped with a Nespresso coffee machine and ‘the 24 logo’ is engraved in the cutlery. The apartment is decorated with loads of designer items. It also had a private sauna and a Jacuzzi on the balcony.
On top of that 24 by Avenida houses a private underground parking, a gym and a public sauna for guests in the basement. Of course there is also a heated ski room with lockers to stall your boots and ski equipment.
The public sauna but our penthouse apartment had a private one as well.
The gym for a quick session to keep fit while traveling. ;)
Underground car park, super handy in winter and easy carrying all your gear inside with the elevator.
24 Kitchen & Bar Kaprun
On the ground floor you will find the stylish restaurant 24 Kitchen & Bar, the newest hotspot in Kaprun. Not just an ordinary steakhouse, here they will only serve Wagyu Beef! Simply the best meat on the market and seriously delicious. All the ingredients they use are local, another great detail from 24 by Avenida.
I tried almost everything on the menu and when I did not want to eat meat there were also some vegetarian options like the salmon trout wrapped in a banana leaf which was mouthwatering. But my favorite dish was actually the Thai beef salad!
Everything was yummy, there was even sushi, my all time favorite!
Special thanks to the skilled and humoristic guys who were serving us. Every day they came up with a new and delicious aperitivo! Even if you are not staying in 24 by Avenida, this restaurant is surely worth checking out.
Best Après Ski Kaprun: Pavillon
To celebrate a good day in the mountains you need a good après ski bar. In Kaprun I found out that Pavillon is by far the best après ski bar in Kaprun. This is where locals, ski teachers and après ski fans mingle. Its location on the middle of the town square can’t be missed! Good music, good vibe and a lot of cool happy hour promotions all night long. If you are looking for an après ski bar in Kaprun Pavillon is where you have to go!

Snowboarding at ski resort Kitzsteinhorn
Because of the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier this resort guarantees snow year round. Snowboarding on the glacier in Kaprun is completely different than going down the slopes of the nearby ski resort Zell Am See.
Kaprun is located in and between both ski resorts and Avenida 24 has a complimentary shuttle service upon request. As an experienced snowboarder the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier was a little too small for me, but perfect for 1 or 2 days I would say. It has about 40 kilometer of tracks and some off-piste opportunities in and between the tracks. From the start of the 2018 winter season the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier will be connected by lifts with the Masikogel. This will make it possible to ski back to Kaprun from the glacier.
The steeper the better! The glacier has some cool off-piste possibilities!
As it is a glacier resort there are no trees up here which gives it a bit of a boring feel, but the tracks are wide which is a big plus. I had more fun in the Zell am See ski resort though, which is also included in the Kitzsteinhorn lift ticket. This is more of a family ski resort with tracks back to the base with splendid views over the lake down below.
Thank for keeping up with Traveltomtom, may you have any questions about skiing in Kaprun or staying at Avenida 24 just leave a comment and I am happy to answer.
