But here is the reality: not every hotel room actually has a view of the pyramids and picking the right hotel and especially the right room category can make or break your experience.

In this guide I will show you the best hotels near the pyramids, including my personal recommendations, honest tips and exactly what to look for when booking your stay.

My first time visiting the Pyramids of Giza, I went on a day trip from Cairo. I stayed at the Fairmont Nile City in Cairo, a luxury hotel in the heart of Cairo.

But towards the end of my Egypt trip I visited the Pyramids again. I wanted to experience what it was like sleeping in a hotel next to the Pyramids of Giza so I booked a hotel room with pyramids views for two nights.

9 Things to know before booking a hotel near the pyramids

Before booking one of the best hotels near the Pyramids of Giza, here are a couple of important things you should know. Staying near the pyramids is very different from staying in Cairo and choosing the right hotel and room can make or break your experience.

There is actually no real reason to stay overnight next to the pyramids unless you are dreaming about having breakfast with a view of the pyramids or going to sleep while looking at the silhouettes of this ancient Wonder of the World.

Another advantage of booking a hotel near the pyramids is that you can easily attend the Sound & Light Show, happening every night at 07:00 pm from October to April and at 07:30 pm from May to September.

For reference, an Uber Comfort from Cairo to the Pyramids of Giza costs about $10 USD one-way and takes around 45 minutes, depending on traffic.

Important: Not all hotel rooms near the pyramids have a direct pyramids view. Always check the exact room category and photos before booking.

1. There is not that much to do near the pyramids

Visiting the pyramids is of course the highlight of traveling to Cairo and there is a long list of amazing places to visit in the city itself. But near the pyramids there is still relatively little to do and the area is mostly residential.

That said, since 2025 the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has opened right next to the pyramids, which is a major new attraction. You can easily combine visiting the pyramids with exploring one of the most impressive museums in the world.

Still, apart from the pyramids, the Sphinx and the museum, there is not much else going on in Giza. For restaurants, nightlife and more sightseeing, you are much better off staying in Cairo.

2. Staying 1 night is enough

Unless you are planning to stay in a luxury 5-star hotel and fully enjoy the facilities, one night near the pyramids is usually enough. Most travelers visit the pyramids once and then continue exploring Cairo or the rest of Egypt.

3. Giza town is not the prettiest place

Let’s just be honest. The area around the Pyramids Complex is not a place where you want to hang out. It is dusty, chaotic and not very clean. There is trash on the streets and animal traffic is part of daily life.

Having a room with a view over the pyramids sounds very romantic, but this is also the reality. That said, the view itself is absolutely incredible and still makes staying here a unique experience.

4. Visit the pyramids on the day of check-in

Most likely it will be hot when visiting the pyramids and walking around for a couple of hours in the desert is exhausting. Heading back to your hotel after your visit, taking a shower and relaxing with a view over the pyramids is the perfect way to end the day.

The next morning you can enjoy breakfast with a view without feeling rushed to visit the pyramids again.

5. Choose a room with a pyramids view

Most hotels near the pyramids offer multiple room categories and many of them do NOT include a pyramids view. Always make sure the room explicitly says Pyramids View and carefully check the photos before booking.

This is the number one mistake travelers make when booking a hotel near the pyramids.

6. A room with a balcony is a huge plus

If you want to fully enjoy the view over the pyramids, I highly recommend booking a room with a balcony. Sitting outside with a direct view is a completely different experience compared to looking through a window.

Personally I booked a room without a balcony. The view was good, but the room felt small and sitting behind a glass window was not appealing. I barely spent time in the room because of that.

7. Splurge for one night

Traveling in Egypt is relatively affordable, so if there is one place where it is worth spending a bit more, it is here. Booking a proper pyramid view room is a unique experience and worth it for one night.

After that, you can easily continue your trip on a budget.

8. Prices: what to expect

Rooms with a pyramids view start from around $70 USD per night and can go up to $1,000 USD or more for the best rooms in the luxury hotels. Most stays include breakfast, making it a good value experience across all budgets.

Important: when booking through sites like Booking.com, many hotels add extra charges such as service fees and taxes. These can increase the final price by around 25% to 30%, so always check if taxes are included in the total price before confirming your booking.

9. Rooftops are a hidden gem

Most hotels near the pyramids have rooftop restaurants with even better views than the rooms. These rooftops are perfect for sunset and a great place to hang out. Many are also accessible for non-hotel guests.

Food quality varies. Some places are clearly tourist-oriented with average food and higher prices, while others are surprisingly decent. In general, you are paying for the view.

Alcohol is not always officially listed on the menu, but some places do serve it or can arrange it. If you order a beer, always confirm the price beforehand as it can vary significantly. 

Where to stay for the pyramids: Giza vs Cairo

One of the biggest decisions when planning your visit to the Pyramids of Giza is where to stay: directly near the pyramids in Giza or in central Cairo. Both options have their pros and cons and it really depends on what kind of experience you are looking for.

Staying in Giza (near the pyramids)
If you want that iconic experience of waking up with a view of the pyramids, then staying in Giza is the obvious choice. You are right next to the Pyramids Complex, can easily visit early in the morning and enjoy breakfast or sunset with a direct view.

The downside is that Giza itself is not a particularly nice area. It is chaotic, dusty and there is not much to do besides visiting the pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). Most hotels are simple guesthouses and the overall atmosphere is very different from central Cairo.

Staying in Cairo
Cairo offers a much more comfortable and complete city experience. You will find better hotels, great restaurants, rooftop bars and plenty of things to do. It is the better base if you want to explore the city beyond just the pyramids.

The downside is that you will need to travel to Giza, which takes around 45 minutes by Uber depending on traffic. Visiting the pyramids becomes more of a planned day trip rather than a relaxed experience.

My recommendation: stay 1 night in a hotel near the pyramids for the experience, then move to Cairo for the rest of your trip.

Best hotels near the Pyramids of Giza

If you decided to stay near the pyramids, this is where the experience really becomes special. Waking up with a direct view of the Pyramids of Giza, having breakfast overlooking one of the Seven Wonders of the World or watching the sunset from a rooftop terrace… this is exactly why you stay in Giza.

Below you will find my personal selection of the best hotels near the pyramids, from luxury resorts to budget guesthouses with incredible views. Whether you are looking for a comfortable stay, a unique rooftop experience or simply the best value for money, there is something here for every budget.

One quick tip before you book: staying near the pyramids comes in two different styles. Some hotels offer that close up rooftop or balcony wow moment, but the area can be hectic. Other hotels are more modern and comfortable with facilities like a pool, but the pyramid views are usually more panoramic. Pick what matters most to you and you will love your stay.

Marriott Mena House

By far my favorite place to stay near the pyramids is the Marriott Mena House. It is a proper luxurious resort with huge swimming pool that lives up to the name of the Marriott brand. However, it is of course also very expensive and expect to pay at least around $250 per night.

I enjoyed my experience very much at the Marriott Mena House, it felt like a little oasis away from the dirty town of Giza and the touts in and around the pyramids complex hassling tourists way too much.

Don't be fooled by the picture above, there is no pyramids view from the swimming pool and most rooms don't have pyramids view either or are even more expensive. Rooms however are spacious and luxurious.

The view from the restaurant of the Marriott Mena House is phenomenal and so is the breakfast. If you are looking for the best place to have breakfast in Giza then this is your place. The buffet breakfast is also open for non-guests.

Disadvantage of staying at Marriott Mena House is that the view over the pyramids is a little limited. Unlike the other hotels and guesthouses in this article the Marriott Mena House is located at the main entrance gate of the Pyramids Complex. The resort lies a little lower than the pyramids and you can only see 2 of the 3 big pyramids.

You can NOT see the Sphinx from the Marriott Mena House and neither does the Marriott Mena House have a rooftop restaurant with views over the pyramids.

Staying in the Marriott Mena House is all about luxury travel, but if you are looking to splurge one night in Egypt I would say this is a great hotel to do it. But remember to book a room with a balcony that actually has views of the pyramids.

Steigenberger Pyramids Hotel

If you like the idea of staying near the pyramids, but you also want more comfort and facilities, then the Steigenberger Pyramids Hotel is a very solid choice. This is a full service, modern hotel with larger rooms and a relaxed vibe compared to many of the smaller rooftop focused hotels in Giza.

• Pool with views: the pool area is one of the highlights and on a clear day you can enjoy great views towards the pyramids.
• Room views: some rooms offer pyramid views, but not all of them. If the view matters to you, make sure you book a confirmed pyramid view room and mention it again at check in.
• Rooftop and scenery: parts of the hotel also offer nice panoramic views, more distant than the hotels right next to the entrance.
• Extra bonus: the hotel also has an amazing view of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), which makes it a smart base if you want to combine pyramids time with a museum visit.

My tip: if your number 1 goal is that close up balcony moment with the pyramids filling your frame, choose one of the rooftop hotels in this guide. But if you prefer a more comfortable stay with a pool and still want to enjoy views of the pyramids and the GEM, Steigenberger is a great addition to your shortlist.

Panorama Pyramids Inn

A great place to stay for those on a budget. This guesthouse is located on the front row near the exit of the complex on the side of the Sphinx. The Panorama Pyramids Inn allows you an unobstructed view over the pyramids and the Sphinx from your room as well as from its lovely rooftop restaurant. Rooms with views over the pyramids start from $55. These rooms have no balconies.

The room with a balcony is rather cramped but has a good view over the pyramids and costs around $65.

Egypt Pyramids Inn

Right in front of the Pyramids Complex exit on the first row you will find the Egypt Pyramids Inn with very good reviews on hotel booking sites. The rooms with views of the pyramids start from $70 but are rather cramped. So are the rooms with balconies overlooking the pyramids that start from $110 per night.

The rooftop restaurant of the Egypt Pyramids Inn is big and spacious and has excellent unobstructed views over the complex. This is hotel is a great choice when thinking about staying near the pyramids.

Best view Pyramids Hotel

This hotel is one of those popular pyramid hotels that circulate on Instagram for having a jacuzzi with a view of the pyramids. There is only 1 room with a jacuzzi though and that is the suite on the top floor which costs $140 per night.

The rooftop restaurant has large windows and a rather small outdoor seating. There are better rooftops with views over the pyramids.

Hayat Pyramids View Hotel

Not located on the front street, but one street away from the Pyramid complex and therefore the rooms are much more quiet. It is a taller building than the others and therefor the view from the rooftop is also unobstructed. The rooftop is very spacious and probably one of the best rooftop restaurants near the pyramids. Hotel rooms with views of the pyramids start from $70.

They have a Deluxe Suite for $140, but unfortunately it has no balcony. The rooms with balconies do have a partial view of the pyramids.

Pyramids Valley Boutique Hotel

A little more expensive than most other hotels in this area, but also a little more comfortable plus the deluxe double rooms with pyramids view have balconies. I didn't stay there myself but it looked as the nicest place to stay, especially with the multi level terraces. Price: $75 for a balcony room with views over the Sphinx and the pyramids.

The Pyramids Valley Boutique Hotel has several rooftops, and from the one on the top floor you a have 360 degrees view over the town and of course the Pyramids of Giza.

A little bummer is that from the rooms and some terraces you can NOT see the biggest pyramid, only from the rooftop terrace. But you can see the other 2 big pyramids from everywhere else.

Cleopatra Pyramids View Hotel

This is the hotel that I chose when staying near the pyramids. Just like many other hotels around it had very good ratings on hotel booking sites. It is one of the cheapest rooms with an actual view of the pyramids. You can get a room with pyramids view for already $60. The staff is friendly.

The rooms are pretty small and there is no balcony. As it is on the street side it is pretty loud and I used earplugs to sleep.

The rooftop is a little disappointing. It is very small, chairs are incredibly uncomfortable, food is NOT good and prices are high. The included breakfast is served at the rooftop restaurant. Views are good, but the breakfast is very simple.

Airbnb Jacuzzi by the Pyramids

Last but not least a complete different option. Not directly located near the entrance or exit of the pyramids, but a short 5 minute walk away. This one bedroom apartment is the most popular choice on Airbnb when looking for rooms close to the Pyramids of Giza.

Bummer is that it requires a short walk through the town to reach the pyramids. Although I would say Giza is safe, at night I would recommend to take a 2 minute taxi or tuk-tuk ride. Price for 1 night at this Airbnb with pyramids view is around $100. 

9 Pyramids Lounge (best lunch with a view)

One last recommendation when visiting the pyramids is the 9 Pyramids Lounge. This is honestly one of the most incredible places to have lunch with an unobstructed view over the pyramids. The setting is unique and the views are simply extraordinary.

Keep in mind that the 9 Pyramids Lounge is located inside the Pyramids Complex and only accessible after paying the 700 EGP entrance fee.

To get there you can use the shuttle service, walk, or take a horse cart or camel ride as it is a bit further inside the complex.

Plan at least 2 hours if you want to visit the lounge, have lunch and return. The lounge is open daily from 09:00 am to 03:30 pm and the Pyramids Complex closes at 04:00 pm.

Is the Great Pyramid inside ticket worth it?

If you are thinking about buying the 1,500 EGP ticket to go inside the Great Pyramid, it is good to know what to expect.

It is a short experience of about 10 minutes, walking through a very narrow and steep passage that can get extremely hot. At the end you reach a simple chamber with a sarcophagus.

I personally expected something completely different. It is a cool experience, but not as impressive as many people imagine beforehand.

My honest opinion: worth it if you are curious and want the full experience. Great adventure, but don’t expect anything spectacular to see inside.
